Artist Statement

I’ve spent much of my life not knowing what I would do, where I would go, or how to become successful. Growing up low-income in a neighborhood with gangs, spontaneity prevailed.  I learned to appreciate every moment at face value. Early on I learned that uncertainty and anxiety would prevent me from ever sharing my work, and from ever growing if I gave them an ounce of consideration. So I express myself through unrefined, raw art. Art that I share transparently, openly, and without curation.

Starting from no formal art education, my experiments have led me through a journey of styles. With each boundary I push, each self-imposed rule I break, I connect with inspirations from past eras; immigrants who prized expressionism and innovation as they too sought their way in the world. In this way, my style is rapidly evolving, always fleeing from the comfortable.

My work is not governed by transitional bias in the context of compositional rules, color theory, or mediums. Working wet on wet, mixing materials directly over the substrate, letting the art interact internally to form unique variability that cannot be recreated. It is bold, expressive, and colorful.
